Multi-Role Wealth Management Platform for a Global Investment Firm

SUMMARY

A UK-based digital wealth management and cross-border investment firm needed a unified platform to support clients, advisors and administrators across multiple markets. Rosnium designed and delivered a greenfield, cross-border, multi-role wealth management platform spanning onboarding and KYC, portfolio management, investment workflows, fees, reporting, governance and role-based access. Client Overview

The client is a digital wealth management and investment firm serving private investors, advisors, wealth managers and financial institutions across multiple regulated markets.

The business offers both advisor-led wealth management and self-directed investing across public and private market products, serving clients with different financial goals, risk profiles and investment needs. Wealth managers, relationship managers and administrators oversee client onboarding, investment activity, portfolios, reporting and ongoing servicing across several jurisdictions, while also supporting a network of institutional partners.

Business Challenge

The client needed more than a client-facing portal. It required a central operational platform capable of supporting the day-to-day processes behind a multi-market wealth management business.

Client onboarding and KYC, portfolio administration, investment workflows, fees and commissions, reporting, communications, approvals and governance all needed to operate within a connected system. The platform also had to support wealth managers, relationship managers and administrators working across regulated operations in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Abu Dhabi and the United States, alongside a growing partner network. Each user group required different permissions, responsibilities and access to information.

The challenge was compounded by the fact that the platform was entirely greenfield. It also needed to sit behind the firm’s custom ETF trading platform and advisor-client self-service portal already built by Rosnium, providing the operational layer required to support those client-facing experiences without creating fragmented back-office processes. The workflows and technology supporting that layer had to be defined together from the outset.

All of this had to be designed and delivered within a fixed eight-month timeframe, with access control, traceability and reliable financial records treated as core requirements from the beginning.

Issues

Onboarding, KYC, client and portfolio administration, investment activity, reporting and communications could not operate across disconnected tools and records. Doing so would increase manual reconciliation work, create inconsistencies between teams and make it harder to maintain a reliable view of each client and account.

Wealth managers, relationship managers, and administrators needed access to the same underlying client and portfolio information, but with different permissions, responsibilities and actions.

Operating across multiple regulated markets introduced different requirements around client data, approvals, access and record keeping.

Portfolio data, investment activity, uploaded documents, communications and key user actions needed to remain linked to the correct client, account and workflow.

Solution Objective

The objective was to create a single connected operational platform supporting the full client lifecycle through a shared operational core.

Rather than maintaining separate systems for different users and processes, the platform would use role-based access to give each user the information and controls relevant to their role while keeping client, portfolio and investment records consistent across the business.

Rosnium Delivery

Rosnium led the custom wealth management platform programme from product design through engineering and deployment, translating the client’s operating model into a working digital platform within eight months.

The engagement combined software engineering, user experience design and interactive prototyping to define complex operational workflows before moving them into production. Rosnium’s extensive experience working with wealth management firms and the deep understanding of the operating models behind regulated financial advisory businesses allowed us to design the wider system around it, rather than optimising individual features in isolation.

Delivery Approach

The engagement began by defining the client’s operating workflows, user roles, platform requirements and technical constraints. This established the foundation for the platform architecture and established the priorities required to deliver a broad greenfield programme within a fixed timeframe.

The platform was delivered in structured phases, with design and engineering progressing in short cycles as workflows and requirements were validated. This allowed the team to incorporate feedback as the product took shape while maintaining clear delivery milestones.

The overall programme was governed by a fixed eight-month delivery window. Scope and priorities were managed around that constraint, ensuring the core operational capabilities required for launch were designed, engineered and deployed within the agreed timeframe.

Solution Implementation

Within eight months, the greenfield programme moved from product definition to a working wealth management operating platform supporting users and workflows across multiple markets.

The platform brought client, account, portfolio and investment information into a shared operational core, allowing wealth managers, relationship managers and administrators to work through role-specific experiences without creating separate systems for each business function.

Security & Assurance

Security and compliance were treated as core delivery requirements from the outset. The platform was developed in line with ISO 27001 and UK Cyber Essentials Plus practices and underwent successful penetration testing before production use, helping validate its resilience against common cyber-security threats and vulnerabilities.

Technology Architecture & Integrations

The platform was built with a Django backend, React frontend and PostgreSQL database, with infrastructure hosted on AWS.

Services included EC2 for application hosting, RDS for managed databases, Elastic Load Balancing for traffic distribution, CloudWatch for monitoring and logging, Lambda for supporting functions and S3 for KYC documents and generated reports.

Although delivered as a monolith, the application was structured using multi-tenant principles and role-based access, providing separation between organisations and user groups while allowing multiple role-specific experiences to operate through the same core platform and data model.

Zoho CRM was integrated to synchronise relevant client and operational information with the wider business. Email, SMS and Firebase supported communications and in-app notifications across workflows including onboarding, approvals and client servicing.

The architecture also provides the foundation for further product evolution, including broader investment capabilities, robo-advisory and AI-assisted wealth management.

Digital Onboarding & KYC

Clients could register directly or join through an invitation before progressing through financial goal setting, risk profiling and KYC within a connected onboarding journey.

Wealth managers could monitor onboarding progress, identify incomplete applications and support clients through each stage without maintaining separate onboarding records.

Professional users followed a controlled invitation and onboarding process, giving the organisation greater control over who could access administrative and client information.

Client & Portfolio Management

Each client’s profile, financial goals, risk information, accounts and portfolio activity remained connected throughout the lifecycle.

Wealth managers could review balances, holdings, realised and unrealised performance, deposits, withdrawals, fees and investment activity from a single operational view.

Client relationships could also be assigned to relationship managers while maintaining the appropriate level of wealth-manager visibility and oversight.

Investment Activity & Approvals

The platform supported wealth-manager-assisted investment activity, including orders initiated on behalf of clients.

Where client approval was required, requests could move into the client experience for review while the status, history and investment information remained linked to the relevant account and portfolio.

This created a controlled connection between advisor-led activity and the client’s own investment journey.

Fees, Pricing & Commissions

Administrators could configure pricing structures and commission arrangements and review commercial performance across defined periods.

Fee and commission reports could be generated and exported in XLSX, CSV and PDF formats or distributed by email.

This kept commercial administration connected to the client, account and portfolio activity from which fees and commissions were derived.

Reporting & Portfolio Visibility

The reporting layer brought together account balances, equity values, realised and unrealised performance, capital gains, daily balances, deposits, withdrawals and fees.

Wealth managers could review client and account performance without moving between separate reporting systems, while aggregated money-flow views supported broader operational analysis.

Reports could also be exported for use outside the platform where required.

Administration, Access & Governance

The administration layer provided control over professional users, client relationships, organisational structures and platform access.

Role-based permissions determined what clients, relationship managers, wealth managers and administrators could view, manage or approve.

Audit trails and session-based logging maintained a traceable record of key platform actions, approvals and changes across the different user experiences.

Impact and Outcomes

The platform became the operational foundation for the client’s growing wealth management business, bringing client administration, portfolios, investment workflows, reporting, fees and governance into one connected environment.
